Festival of Classics promises a great day out in Newport this Saturday

NEWPORT city centre will be packed with classic and vintage vehicles, street market stalls and music on Saturday (June 8) as the Festival of Classics takes place.

Staged by the Newport Now Business Improvement District (BID), the Festival of Classics runs from 11am to 4pm in High Street and Commercial Street.

Classic and vintage cars, motorcycles and other vehicles will be on display along High Street and parts of Commercial Street.

There will also be a street market run by Cotyledon Markets with 14 craft and food stalls.

Music lovers will also have a treat with bands playing at McCann’s Rock n Ale Bar in High Street from 1.30pm. Acts include Oxbowlake, Conners & The Conmen, Taffy Was A Thief and 12 Bore.

McCann’s will also have a barbecue, while nearby Le Pub will be serving vegetarian and vegan food.

To enable the event to run smoothly, Commercial Street (between Stow Hill and Hill Street), High Street, Griffin Street, Market Street, Corn Street (between Upper Dock Street and Commercial Street), and Charles Street (from the Job Centre downwards) will be closed to all vehicles, including pedal cycles, from 9am to 5pm. There will be stewards at all road closure points.

The event has attracted hundreds of people into the city centre in previous years.

Anyone interested in exhibiting a classic or vintage vehicle at the event should contact John Gibbon on 07854 574019 or email festivalofclassics@gmail.com

The Festival of Classics is part of a calendar of events organised or sponsored by the BID, all aimed at increasing footfall in the city centre at key times of the year.
