Shopfront challenge to mark 80th anniversary of VE Day

Next month's 80th anniversary of VE Day will be a historic moment of shared remembrance and celebration for the UK.

The country will mark 80 years since the end of the Second World War in Europe with a series of events in all four nations of the UK, including the lighting of beacons - one of which will be in Newport .

Today Newport Now BID launches a shopfront challenge for all businesses in the city centre.

Can your shopfront be the best-decorated in the city centre for the anniversary?

There are no rules to the challenge for the period running up to the anniversary on May 8. You can dress your shopfront in any way you choose, providing there is a VE Day theme.

And the shopfront chosen as the best-decorated by the BID's judges will win a £100 Newport Now gift card.

The winning business can choose whether they want to give the gift card to a customer, staff, or use it as a competition or raffle prize.
